Christians Are The Church Of Christ

Christians Church Of Christ

Jesus Christ has His body on earth, we are that body, the Church (Christians Church Christ). Christians are the Church of Christ.

Many people call church a place of worship, the physical building we go to for spiritual activities. Church is bigger than just a building.

The first place we can find the word ‘Church’ is in Matthew 16, in Jesus’ conversation with the disciples in Matthew 16:13-19

Here is the Question:

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Peter’s Response

Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

The Misinterpretation Of This Scripture

Many people always misinterprete the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:18. They say Peter is the rock on which Jesus is building His Church. My question is this, God, being the only wise build His Church on a weak man? Jesus knows Peter too well and knows that he would deny him someday. Not until the coming of the Holy Spirit in the upper room, Peter was not brave.

Is Peter really the rock on which Jesus is building His Church? I want to help you understand this scriptures.

What Jesus Did not Say About His Church

Many people always interprete the words of Jesus wrongly. Jesus never said He would build His church on peter. I want these words of Jesus with open heart.

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18 NKJV

The name ‘Peter’ is the Greek word ‘petros’. Petros means a stone or a rock. Peter or Cephas both mean the same thing: a rock or a stone – this is a stone larger than small stones. Jesus says; “you are Peter [petros: a stone or a rock larger than small stones], and upon this Rock I will build my Church.

Peter Is Also The Building of Jesus

Anyone who properly understands the words of Jesus knows that Peter is part of the building of Jesus. He is not the rock on which Jesus builds His church but rather one of the pillars.

The word ‘Rock’ in this scripture is the Greek word “petra” this is slightly different from petros (Peter). Petra means: a rock, cliff or ledge – a projecting rock, crag, rocky ground, a rock, a large stone; metaphorically a man like a rock. The Rock Jesus refers to here is the revelation. Among the twelve only Peter had the revelation of Jesus as the Christ. People call Him Prophet, Messiah, and Teacher but Peter by revelation of God’s Spirit calls Him Christ which is more than a prophet and a teacher.

The Focus of Jesus Is On Revelation

Words of Jesus, “you are Peter” and upon this rock which is the revelation of Christ I will build my Church. Many Christians don’t understand this portion of the scripture. The Master is building on the revelation of His person not on man. Therefore, the revelation is what Jesus is referring to as rock.

Revelations of Christ are more real thank anything that’s why Jesus says “I will build my Church” on it.

Prayer of Apostle Paul For The Body Of Christ

Apostle Paul, the master church builderalways prays this prayer for Christians. We all should learn to pray that way for the saints.

The Prayer

……….., making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, ………… And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:15‭-‬23 NKJV

Understanding His Church

The Church of Jesus Christ is His body and these are the Christians. Church is not one person but a member comprising of many. Hence, we call every Christian a member of Christ’s body.

And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:22‭-‬23 NKJV

  • Jesus is first of all the head of His body. Understand what the scripture is saying. Jesus is given to the Church as her head.
  • Secondly, Church is the body of Jesus Christ. And,
  • Thirdly, God has put all things under the feet of Jesus and His body.

Get something clear here; I’m sure you know that a person cannot be the head of an animal? Person can’t have animal as his or her body, neither can a man made building be the body of a person. That doesn’t make any sense. The body Christ is not a physical building but a spiritual one, because God is Spirit. What is the Church and how can we define this body of Christ?.

The Body Of Jesus Christ

According to the scriptures, the Church of Jesus is His body. These are Christians the people he purchased with His precious blood. Christians are the building, note, not buildings as in man, but, building meaning one. The body of Christ is one unit but with many members.

so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Romans 12:5 NKJV

See Christ’s Body From The Word

For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body— whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many. Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. I Corinthians 12:12‭-‬14‭, ‬27 NKJV

I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, Colossians 1:24 NKJV

Everyone who is born of God belongs to this body of special people and a righteous nation. We are a Kingdom of priests and Kings.

Church of Jesus Is A Spiritual Building

The Word Church is the Greek Word “Ekklesia” meaning – ‘a calling out’. Christians are the called out people, called out of the world representing and serving the interest of our Father’s Kingdom on the earth.
Church of Jesus is also the gathering of the saints, the believers. Every Christian is the body of Jesus and a member of the body which is the Universal Church.

Christians are the body or building of Jesus, not a physical building but a spiritual one. We are also the place of His abode

Going to Church doesn’t make any one a Christian making decision for Jesus is the only thing that always qualifies a person to be a Christian.

Peter One Of The Church Pillars

Apostle Peter is a living stone in Jesus’ building just like every other Christians is. Peter is one of the pillars of the church but not the one on who Jesus build.

Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,” and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. 1 Peter 2:4‭-‬8 NKJV

Christians Are Lively Stones

Jesus Christ is the stone on which He is building His Church and every Christian is a lively stone. Further more, we are all living stones just like Peter, Paul and all the rest apostles and disciples are. Peter is the building of Jesus and Paul is a building of Jesus. All Christians both past and present are all God’s building.

We are the Church that is still on the earth today and the building of Jesus. Because Jesus is a living stone, that makes all of us who come from Him lively stones. Even Peter couldn’t say Jesus is building the Church on Him.

Jesus Is Building His Church On Revelation of His Person

Jesus builds His Church on the revelations of Himself. Apostle Paul, the master builder of the body, the church always receive his revelations directly from Jesus and all his teachings are the revelations of Jesus to him. He laboured for the Church more than all the other apostles. Even Peter didn’t labour for the Church like Paul did. The Church will never stand if Jesus build it on man.

Here’s what Paul says about his suffering;

I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:24‭-‬27 NKJV

But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. Galatians 1:11‭-‬12 NKJV

Satan Is Under The Feet Of The Christians

And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:22‭-‬23 NKJV

God has put everything under the feet of Jesus. The feet are not attached directly to the head but to the body. Jesus is the head of His body the Church. Church is the body of Jesus Christ. Feet are at the the lower part of the body. What does this mean? It means that everything God put under the feet of Jesus are directly under the feet of the Church.

In Conclusion

God has given us authority to subdue and dominate circumstances and unpleasant to us. Principalities are powers are under our feet. The Church has no reason to be afraid of anything because all things are under our feet. Hallelujah!
