Everyone who is born of God is born of the Spirit of God, he is a spirit and has spirit-nature. The Christian is not a man of the flesh, he’s a man of the Spirit, however must consciously develop his spirit. Your spirit spirit-nature is your most important nature which must be given attention to. Just as we pay attention to developing our physical body and muscles so must we consciously develop our spirit-man. Paul said to Timothy:
But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV
Developing Your Spirit Is Your Responsibility
Any Christian who does not consciously develop his spirit can’t grow. It is like a person who wants to develop his muscle but neither exercises his body nor eat the right food. His muscles won’t develop until he does something to his body. You have to pay attention to your spirit-nature more than you do to your physical body.
Understand that when you became born again it is your spirit that is reborn. New birth is not a physical birth like we were born by our parents; it’s a spiritual birth. From the first day a man accepts Jesus into his heart to be his Lord and Saviour, the man must begin to grow. God wants us to grow in the knowledge of who we are in Him so that we can live as He wants us to. You have to make decision not to remain spiritual infant.
Consciously Refuse To Be Carnal
And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 1 Corinthians 3:1-2 KJV
The Conrinthians received the Gospel and we’re saved but for a very long time remained babes. Paul wasn’t happy with their spiritual immaturity because no one wants his child or children to remain dwarf. The growth and development of kids always give their parents joy and Paul expects the same from his spiritual kids.
Not growing up spiritually will make you a carnal Christian and a carnal Christian can’t receive much from God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 1 Corinthians 2:12-15 KJV
There is food for babes and there is food for the matured. The matured Christian is a spiritual man the real spiritual man whereas the baby Christian is still carnal.
The reason many Christians struggle with their flesh is because they have not taken time to consciously develop their spirit. When you develop your spirit, your spirit will grow to be in charge thereby causing you to desire to live right. You don’t need to struggle as a Christian with sin, bad habit and you need not to struggle to be successful. Develop your spirit, and you are set for an exciting, glorious, triumphant, victorious, and successful life.
Develop Your Spirit To Be God conscious
One very important thing you must do consciously as a Christian is to develop your spirit-nature and become more God-conscious in your daily walk. There’re Christians who aren’t God-conscious, even though they’re born again; they haven’t developed their spirits; they haven’t matured in their Christian walk. When you develop your spirit, you’ll never be afraid of anything; you’ll always be a victor. It makes no difference what happens with you or around you; you’ll always be on top.
Have you ever observed birds, and how they fly? Some can only fly at a certain height. A duck may fly higher and longer than a chicken, but it can’t sustain itself like a sparrow. And as fast and as wonderfully a sparrow may fly, it can never fly as high as an eagle and sustain itself in the air. It’s like airplanes too; some can only fly between thirty to thirty-eight thousand feet above sea level. Some can fly at forty thousand feet, and can’t go higher, no matter how they try. But some can fly at sixty thousand feet.
Spiritually, it’s the same. Some Christians are “flying” very high. Some want to fly high but they can’t, because they haven’t developed their spirit-life for that level; so, when trouble strikes, they’re overwhelmed and rattled by the turbulence. But the one who has developed his spirit, soars like an eagle; he has the “speed” and “lift” to go above turbulence. It makes no difference what your present situation is; if you’d develop your spirit, you’ll always rise above the turbulence. How do you develop your spirit?
How To Develop Your Spirit
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby 1 Peter 2:2 KJV
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32).
The only way and the only resource material available to you to develop your spirit is the word of God. God’s word will build you up, develop your spiritual muscles to make you strong and become a spiritual giant. The question now is, how does the word make one strong and help develop one’s spirit? It is by meditation on the word always and doing what it says.
Develop Your Spirit By Meditating On The Word
God tells us in Joshua 1:8 to meditate on His Word.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8 KJV
That’s the secret for training and developing your spirit for success. That’s how you programme your spirit for the triumphant life of ever-increasing glory. Practice meditating on the Word of God. When you study the Word, don’t just read through; capture it into your heart, and learn to give the Word first place in your life. The word should not be the last thing in your life, it should be the first and all in all.
Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me. I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. Psalms 119:92-94, 97-100, 105, 130 KJV
Make The Right Decision Today
Decide today to consciously develop your spirit. Don’t live your life to chance or you would be overwhelmed by the troubles of this life.
Spiritual maturity doesn’t happen automatic, it requires decision and conscious effort on your side to meditate on and always walk in the word of God.
You are born again to live a life of victory, success, abundance, joy and happiness, excellence, power, and dominion over all powers of darkness. Don’t allow the devil rob you of all the benefits God has for you as His child, walk in grace.
