Why Faith Is So Important
Faith is the lifeline of Christianity, no one can be a Christian without it. Pleasing God is only by faith that is why we must understand what faith really is. As Christians, we walk by faith because we received salvation by faith.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17 NKJV
We Receive Salvation By Faith
Salvation came by faith. It is only when a man receives salvation that his life starts, it therefore means that our lives started when we got saved. We are called as Christians and as the church of Jesus Christ to live by faith.
It is only by faith we can change things and turn unfavourable situations to favourable.
By Faith The Elders Obtained Good Report
For by it(faith) the elders obtained a good report. (Hebrews 11:2 KJV)
Who are the elders? The elders are the heroes of faith. These are people who hazarded their lives in order to please God. All these people are referred to as elders. They obtained good reports, on other words, they were commended for their faith walk.
This is why faith is very important for us today because this is the only way we can be commended too.
We Live By Faith And Not By Sight
“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17 KJV)”
“but the just shall live by his faith.” (Habakkuk 2:4 KJV)
“And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” (Romans 14:23 KJV)
“For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV)
Faith is The Only Way
There is no other way for us, faith is the only way. We don’t live by what we see and we don’t live according to our feelings, we live only by faith. Therefore, faith is a very important for us as believers.
Every Christian Has Faith
There is no a single Christian without faith. This is a truth most believers preachers inclusive find difficult to believe but not believing it does not negate the reality. How possible Is it to be a christian without faith? No one can be a Christian without having faith. You have to believe and receive the gospel to be a christian. Therefore, to say that a christian has no faith is not true.
God Gives Everyone Faith To Receive Salvation
When a man believes receives the gospel God Imparts faith to the man’s spirit and the faith remains in the person except he loses his salvation.
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Romans 12:3 NKJV
Every genuine christian receives a measure of faith when he receives salvation. This is why there is not single christian who has no faith except the one who refuse to put his faith to work.
Your Faith Makes You A Christian
What makes you a believer is your faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. To say you don’t have faith means you don’t believe God. The word of God makes it clear, it says;
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 KJV)
The word of God gives us the best definition of faith which we can’t find anywhere else. Here is how faith is defined in the Bible;
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. (Hebrews 11:1-2 KJV)
Study those two verses carefully; it says, ‘now’. God’s word says, ‘now faith is’, it didn’t say ‘then’ but instead uses the word ‘now’ meaning that is the definition of faith in every generation. The definition does not change with generations, what faith was in the time of Abel and Abraham is what faith is now and would remain the same forever.
What Is Faith?
Now faith is the ‘substance’ of things hoped for, and faith is also the evidence of things not seen. Faith is ‘the substance’ and faith is ‘the evidence’. When you say something is a substance it means that thing truly exist whether you can touch and feel it or not, your feeling has nothing to do with its existence because it is a substance.
For example, metal is a substance but a substance in solid form which you can see with the optical eye, touch, hold and feel that you are really holding something.
Another substance I want to talk about i water. It’s a substance but a substance in liquid form. You can see it, touch it, hold it in your palm and feel it but you can’t hold water the way you hold metal. Water can take the form of your palm but metal can’t instead it is your palm that would need to take the shape of the metal. These are substances and they are tangible.
A gas is another substance, a substance in gaseous form. Most gases can’t be seen with the optical eye, but that you don’t see them doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
If you fold your palm now you might not feel like you are holding something the way you would feel if you were holding metal or water but the truth is, there are gases in your palm whenever you fold it, this is a reality and has nothing to do with your feeling.
This is how faith is, it is a substance, you can’t hold it with your hand but your heart can grab it with the heart because it’s a spiritual thing. Faith is a spiritual substance that only the spirit can see, feel, touch and hold.
Human Intellect Cannot Understand Faith
Anyone who tries to have faith in his head will never have it because head and senses can never comprehend faith. Only the heart understands faith because the heart is the seat of faith. That you can’t feel it with your senses doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist; it is bigger than what human intellect can grasp.
Faith Is Substance
Faith is therefore the substance, the assurance, the confirmation of the things hoped for. What are the things hoped for? They are the promises of God concerning us, His words to us and for us. All of us hope to see everything God had said and will say come to reality in our lives. We want to see the manifestation of God’s power and glory in our lives. Again, we hope to live a glorious life, fulfilled destiny, and live in health all the days of our lives. These are some of the things we hope for.
You Need Faith To Experience The Reality Of God’s Blessings
Faith is the assurance, the confirmation the proof that everything God said about Himself, about us, His promises to us and words are real and that every blessing in the Bible belongs to us. We might not see the manifestation now with the optical eye but we know and are convinced of their true existence.
Faith makes you live in the reality of all the blessings now even if you can’t touch or feel them now with your senses.
Also, faith is the evidence and confident assurance of the unseen realities, you perceive it and you’re convinced beyond any doubt that the things God said are real. Faith perceives as real fact what is not yet revealed to the senses.
To The Scriptures
It is by faith that the elders obtained good report. See how some versions rendered it;
“this is what the ancients were commended for” (NIV)
“for by it our fathers had God’s approval” (BBE)
“for by it the people of old received God’s commendation” (NET)
Faith Is Personal
Faith is personal in our individual work with God. I can’t please God by your faith neither can you please God by my faith, you need your faith and I need mine.
All the people who ever walked with God pleased Him by their individual faith in Him, His existence and promises. They could not see Him with their optical eyes but their hearts were after Him and were willing to live beyond their senses and human intellect.
The desire of these people was to please the Supreme God that human eye cannot see. They took hold of His words, acted on them even when they don’t make sense to human intellect, they risked their lives all with the intention of pleasing Him, this made them received God’s approval. God commended them for their faith and He is still doing the same today.
Abraham The Father Of Faith
When God told Abraham that He would make him the father of many nations, Abraham had no child and the circumstances proved it was not possible for Abraham to have any child.
At that time, everything surrounding Abraham except God was proving he can’t have a child by Sarah because he was old and His wife had gone passed the age of bearing children. In the face of all these negative evidences Abraham, even when there was no hope for faith to hang on still believed God, he looked beyond the present circumstances and held unto the word of God. He took his focus away from all the negative evidences and focused on God.
The Bible records concerning him, this is the testimony;
Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. (Romans 4:18 KJV)
Christians Are To Follow The Steps of Abraham
This is how every believer ought to live and walk with God, we are to believe every of His words and walk according to His words.
We must daily look away from all unpleasant circumstances and fix our gaze on Jesus. Our eyes must always be on Jesus and His word alone. We must always hold on to the promises of God without allowing anything turn our hearts away from His words.
How To Believe
The seat of faith is the heart of man not the head. You can’t have faith in the head but in the heart. The head would always want to reason out the word and God’s word is not to be reasoned out with head. The word of God is to be believed with the heart and meditated on with a pure heart.
You don’t need to understand what God is saying, all you’re expected to do is believe and do. For this to happen you must give yourself to His word. Renew your mind continually with the word, give no room for doubt only believe. Make sure that you believe with your heart always.
Faith is the believing God and His words with the heart even when it doesn’t make sense to the human intellect.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9 KJV)
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:10 KJV)
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. (Mark 11:23 KJV)
How To Have And Grow Your Faith
The primary way you can have faith is by hearing the word of God: hearing and hearing and hearing and hearing. Hearing the word of God brings and builds faith in the heart of the hearer. As you are reading this, your faith is being built up, that is how your faith gets built up everytime you hear the word God or listen to anointed messages or read anointed books.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 KJV)
Faith for salvation comes when you hear the message of salvation, it is the same way you build your faith in other areas. Keep listening to the word of God in any area you want your faith built up. As you listen and listen to the word your faith will grow in that area.
How To Prove Faith
The proof that you have faith is your action or work. If you truly believe you will act and do what the word says. If you don’t act it shows you don’t have faith. Consequently, if you find it hard to do what God says, it means you don’t truly believe because if you believes you’ll act.
It is your work of faith that really matters not the faith that you have alone. It is your work that brings the promises of God to reality in your life. The only way to please God is by acting on what He says, that is faith.
We please God by acting on His word. not by confessing the word alone.
Read The Scripture
Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:17-26 NKJV
Faith Move Mountains
Exercise Your Faith
What you need to move mountain is not a big faith, your small faith is all that’s required. A faith that is as small as mustard seed is sufficient to move mountains. Don’t think your faith is not big enough to bring the desired change, your little faith can do it.
You can change the situation now. You can move the mountain, you don’t have to wait for your faith to grow big to move mountain. Your small faith is enough, just exercise it. Exercising your faith strengthens your faith so exercise it to make it strong.
